Psychiatrist for Expert Witness Reports
Mentus Recruitment has joined forces with a prominent UK expert witness assessment service, recognized for delivering exceptional reports to local authorities and solicitors involved in family and criminal court cases.
We are in search of psychiatry specialty doctors who are interested in serving as expert witnesses in civil, criminal, and family court settings.
Currently, we are seeking psychiatrists to conduct independent expert witness evaluations predominantly within legal contexts. Our psychiatrists frequently receive commissions to assess clients presenting a range of conditions and to provide diagnoses and treatment suggestions that aid the Court's decision-making process.
The Role:
- Performing thorough medical assessments and evaluations
- Capable of producing high-quality expert witness reports
- Collaborating with the legal team to discuss your findings and reports alongside other expert witnesses, with meetings held either remotely or in person
- Attending court to provide testimony
This position is ideal for Consultants Psychiatrist or Paediatricians, specialty doctors in Psychiatry or Paediatrics or higher trainee Psychiatrists/Paediatricians looking for part-time opportunities. Previous expert witness experience is not mandatory, as comprehensive training will be provided.
Psychiatrists should have experience working with adults, children, and families, or in forensic environments.
Applicants must be registered with the GMC and possess Section 12 approval.
Working hours are flexible; many referrals are received weekly, and we can accommodate various working patterns for part-time commitments, ranging from 6 to 30 hours per week.
This is a hybrid role, allowing much of the workload to be performed remotely, although travel within London and the South East may be necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:
- GMC registration with license to practice
- Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB)
- Section 12 Approval
- Experience at working as a Specialty Doctor or Consultant in the NHS or Private Sector
- Experience in Adult, Child, Family or Forensic Psychiatry.
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail
